Safari Africa

The vibrant coastal town of Hermanus will be hosting the 12th FynArts Festival from 7 to 17 June 2024. The festival is an exuberant celebration of creativity in all its forms – visual, musical, literary, culinary, and performance. The diverse programme runs over 10 days and is bursting with delights, from theatre and live music in every genre, to art exhibitions, talks, workshops and food and wine experiences.

The Marine Hotel is situated in the heart of Hermanus on the famous cliff path overlooking Walker Bay. The hotel is within easy walking distance to various Fynarts activities and exhibitions and offers indulgent accommodation options for festivalgoers. This includes sea-facing rooms where by June – when whale season should be in full swing – whale watching may be possible even from the cozy comfort of your bed!

Well-established as a vibrant cultural hub for the arts, Hermanus boasts no less than 21 art galleries. As part of the Fynarts Festival, The Marine is proud to host an exhibition of indoor sculptures of 13 artists. These include eleven well-established artists who also have larger sculptures on display on the cliffs around Gearing’s Point. During the Fynarts Festival The Marine’s pool courtyard will furthermore serve as venue for a Bonsai exhibition to showcase a selection of some of the finest, locally grown specimens of this ancient art form.

Before or after browsing the exhibitions, festivalgoers are welcome to visit The Sun Lounge at The Marine to enjoy the mesmerizing ocean views, along with coffee, drinks, light snacks or Afternoon Tea. The hotel’s Pavilion Restaurant is open for bookings for breakfast, lunch and dinner, inviting non-resident guests too to experience head chef Oelof Vorster’s dishes which focus on local flavours and fresh ingredients, to highlight the impressive bounty of the Overberg.

As part of the Fynarts Culinary Series of vegan and vegetarian dishes, Chef Oelof will present a food demonstration on Monday 10 June at 15:00 in the United Church Hall. He will share his cooking tips and trade secrets while preparing a Roasted Tomato Risotto – a comforting, yet elegant dish that is perfect suited to the winter months.
