The South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) commemorated Nelson Mandela International Day by bringing smiles, creativity and learning to Grade 1 learners at Mkhoba Primary School in Umuziwabantu/Harding through a meaningful community outreach initiative.
As part of the 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign, learners spent 67 minutes colouring a dedicated page from SCTIE’s Sardine Run Colouring Book, introducing them to one of the KZN South Coast’s most iconic natural attractions in a fun and interactive way.
To support the activity, SCTIE provided each learner with colouring materials and special treats. The celebration was made even more memorable with a visit from Dino Park SA in Melville, whose entertaining dinosaur characters and gifts captivated the children with added excitement to the day’s programme.
The initiative reflects SCTIE’s commitment to making a positive impact in local communities while encouraging environmental awareness, creativity and an appreciation for the region’s unique tourism offerings from a young age.
SCTIE Chief Executive Officer, Dr Vusumuzi Sibiya, said Nelson Mandela International Day serves as a reminder that meaningful change begins with simple acts of kindness. “Nelson Mandela taught us that each of us has the power to make a difference. By investing our time in young learners, we are not only honouring his legacy but also nurturing curiosity, creativity, and a love for our beautiful destination. We hope the experience inspired the children to dream big and become proud ambassadors of the KZN South Coast.”
Through initiatives such as these, SCTIE continues to demonstrate its commitment to community development, education and promoting tourism while celebrating the values of compassion, service, and hope that Nelson Mandela championed.
