The De Hoop Collection, a member of Cape Country Routes, is proud to announce a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to protecting one of the country’s most treasured landscapes with the launch of the De Hoop Foundation, a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to conservation, heritage preservation and community upliftment.
For years guests have experienced the exceptional natural and cultural richness of De Hoop, from whale-filled coastlines and fynbos-covered dunes to centuries-old archaeological sites and vibrant local communities. The establishment of the De Hoop Foundation ensures that these treasures will continue to be protected, researched and celebrated for generations to come.
The De Hoop Foundation brings together all its long-standing conservation, heritage and community development initiatives under one focused umbrella. This structure enhances transparency, strengthens partnerships and allows for purposeful investment into projects that safeguard the reserve’s natural and cultural heritage while supporting the people who call the region home.
De Hoop’s magic lies not only in its landscapes, but also in its people – the stories passed down through generations, the children discovering the wonders of nature for the first time, the guides who find purpose in sharing the reserve and the communities uplifted through meaningful support. The Foundation ensures that these stories continue to flourish.
To support the Foundation’s work a Conservation, Heritage & Community fee of R250 per guest per stay has been introduced. This contribution enables every visitor to play a direct role in sustaining the reserve and uplifting local communities. The CHC fee supports Environmental Protection, Cultural & Archaeological Heritage, Community Upliftment and Education and Skills Development. All contributions flow directly into the De Hoop Foundation, ensuring responsible stewardship and long-term sustainability.
“We are deeply grateful to every guest, partner and friend who has walked this journey with us”, said William Stephens of De Hoop Collection.
“The De Hoop Foundation marks the beginning of a new chapter – one rooted in care for the land, our heritage and our community. Together, we can carry this legacy forward.”
